The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
The demand for energy and power supply has been steadily increasing to drive the sustainable growth of the global economy. Exploring and identifying reliable and sustainable sources for energy and power supply is one of the major challenges facing the world nowadays. Amidst rising environmental concerns stemming from climate change, global warming and rapid urbanization, there is a pressing need for the energy experts to come up with practical and viable solutions to address the energy and power supply issues.
As a leading university with a global perspective, HKUST is delighted and proud to collaborate with CLP Power and the University of Strathclyde, both eminent leaders in energy and power engineering, to offer this innovative programme which integrates elements of research with industrial application. It is anticipated that this programme will help existing and aspiring engineers deepen their knowledge about power engineering with an initiative to nurture more professionals and promote research into the application of innovation and technology in the energy and power industry.
It is my sincere hope that students under the programme not only will benefit from the academic and research excellence of both universities, but also gain valuable insights from the industrial perspective which will be crucial to their career development in the long run. I look forward to the collaboration with our partners and students in this top-notch programme.

University of Strathclyde
It gives me great pride and pleasure to be involved in this exciting and innovative education programme in partnership with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the CLP Power Academy. This is Hong Kong’s first joint academic and industry-run dual master’s degree programme in energy and power engineering. It will combine classroom-based, distance and online-based, practical and real-world projects, and will cover a range of topics in all aspects of energy and power engineering, with a high level of choice available to all candidates. Learning will be flexible and self-paced, allowing students to combine and schedule their professional and scholarly activities to suit their personal circumstances and preferences. This degree will help to train the next generation of highly-skilled engineers and meet the demand for graduates and specialists in this field. Students on the programme will benefit from the world-class expertise and facilities at the disposal of each of the partners and we are delighted to be working on this initiative. I very much look forward to working with the partners and our students on this excellent dual degree programme.
